Be Not Afraid
We are fearful of so many things – terrorism, growing old; loss of material comfort, death, suffering, our list goes on and on. And yet, both the Hebrew and Christian scriptures repeatedly urged us not to live in fear. In this class, we will consider what Hebrew and Christian scriptures tell us about living without fear and anxiety. We will also tap into the wisdom of the East to help us develop useful tools to deal with the problems and difficulties that life throws our way. This wisdom is always available to us but we usually block it with habitual patterns rooted in fear. Together in a small group setting, we will discover how to awaken our basic goodness, connect with others, accept ourselves and others “warts and all”, and become more compassionate in the face of suffering and fear. This class is not for those who wish to remain “faint-hearted” and will require weekly reading as well as individual and small group work. A commitment to regularly attending all the sessions is required.
Registration: Class size is limited to 12 and closes to new students on September 21.
